Our music ministry is to support the Good Word and Services at St. Stephen’s, in all aspects of worship. We thrive on variety and listen to our congregation’s requests when selecting our music.
The “Spirit of St. Stephen’s” is our folk group, which has been together for over 10 years. In addition to today’s Praise music, we have done music from the 80’s, Taize, Paperless, Gospel, Country, Latin, Jazz, and just a hint of Rock and Roll.
During the regular seasons, we alternate each week between Contemporary and Traditional. Hymns are presented to the delight of some of our traditional folks, and it is not unusual to see some of our people moved to tears when a favourite Hymn brings back a special memory or two. Our third group, Harmony, focuses on quiet, worshipful music once a month at the early (8:30 ) service.
Practice is held each Wednesday evening at 7pm at the church. We welcome new members and encourage new material !
Special services like Lessons and Carols, and Easter are where we keep tradition alive to tell the miracle of the old story.
Our outreach efforts go beyond the walls of St, Stephen’s to the Dearness Home for both monthly services as well as our ‘monthly sing-along on the last Tuesday of each month. These people really appreciate the music as well as the outside contact since most of them are unable to get out.
We also went caroling for our shut-ins, who miss being able to attend St. Stephen’s for regular services. We left them a CD so that they are always connected to St. Stephen’s.
We also join our sister churches, Holy Trinity, and Christ Church Glanworth as many times as logistics permit !
Easter 2014 brought our choirs together at Holy Trinity for a beautiful Easter Anthem, while Christ Church’s Memorial service in June 2014 provided a beautiful country setting for remembrance.
Looking forward to many notes ahead.
